Cedar Basket Weaving Workshop *SOLD OUT*
Saturday, September 20, 2025, 10am-3pm at Sybil Andrews Cottage
The Campbell River Arts Council, as part of the 2025 Art+Earth Festival, is pleased to bring back this ever-popular opportunity to learn traditional cedar weaving. The Cedar Basket Weaving workshop will be Saturday, September 20 from 10am – 3pm at Sybil Andrews Cottage in Willow Point.
Instructor Gail Stoller is a member of the Wei Wai Kai Nation. Born in Campbell River, Gail wasn’t allowed to learn her traditional teachings. In the spring of 2016 Gail started learning traditional cedar bark weaving. Always drawn to arts and crafts, she found peace and comfort in her creations. Since learning, she has mastered cedar baskets, cedar roses and cedar hats. She finds great pleasure in passing on the teachings she has received and showing others the beauty in creating from true traditional ways. This is an excellent opportunity to learn traditional weaving techniques.
All materials are supplied and participants will come away with a finished basket. Beginners are welcome.
Tickets are $45 each and can be purchased here.
Please note that while Sybil Andrews Cottage has an accessible ramp, its heritage washroom is not wheelchair accessible.

Bird Brains (STILL ON!)
Saturday, September 27, 2025, 1-2:30pm at the Museum at Campbell River
The Campbell River Arts Council, as part of the 2025 Art+Earth Festival, is pleased to co-present with the Museum Bird Brains featuring biologist Sandra Milligan of North Island College. Once used as an insult, the term bird brain now stands as a tribute to the astonishing intelligence of birds. In this thought-provoking talk, Sandra will explore the dramatic shift in Western science—from viewing animals as simple automatons to recognizing the rich and varied forms of non-human intelligence, with birds taking center stage. This presentation aims to inspire a deeper appreciation for birds: to observe their behaviours, listen to their communication, and perhaps even imagine engaging in a conversation with them. It’s a celebration of avian intelligence and an invitation to see the natural world with fresh eyes. Tickets are $8 at the door. Learn more here.
