Art-In-The-Hospital Initiative

CRHA-Logo-Transparent

This Initiative, because of generous funding by the Hospital Auxiliary, is proud to be showing juried works from six community organizations and two professional artists. An ‘Art Path’ has been created with patients, staff and visitors in mind. The Art-in-the-Hospital Initiative has been a project in the works for the last year. A small but committed group representing hospital staff, the Campbell River Arts Council and a number of community volunteers have been bringing together artists, the hospital administration, and key members of the hospital staff to facilitate the introduction of more visual art into the hospital.

Many patients now in our hospital are coping with chronic illnesses, some requiring frequent and/or prolonged hospital admissions. These patients, and their caregivers, need courage and support as they await recovery or learn to adapt to new health challenges. The intent of this Initiative is to offer a practical means to help with these journeys.

Art has been produced in partnership with local groups including Ripple Rock Elementary, Carihi, Head Injury Society, Family Services, Kwanwatsi Preschool Program, hospital staff and volunteers. Each group has created a ‘station’ within the hospital along the Art Path. The Initiative’s aim is to have the work changing every six months. Alongside these community groups are also works from local artists Curtis Wilson and Jill Paris Rody.

As we all prepare for the new hospital, the Initiative hopes that great works of art will be included within the new building to uphold the dignity of patients and honour the work of all staff and volunteers. Any financial donations to support the Initiative are most welcome and can be made through the CR Arts Council.

As part of our Art & Health Program, The Campbell River Arts Council is launching a fundraiser to help support the Art-In-The-Hospital Initiative.
