Banner Project 2015

The Campbell River Arts Council would like to thank everyone involved in making the 2015 Banner Project a huge success. The students of thirteen local schools were busily painting banners this year with the theme “Generating hydroelectric power on the Campbell River System.” These colourful banners were mounted around Spirit Square, along Pier Street and throughout Willow Point.

A special “Thank you!” to BC Hydro – this year’s Banner Project main sponsor. This partnership is timely due to the current John Hart Generating Station Replacement Project. BC Hydro is a Crown Corporation that has worked hard to engage the Campbell River community. Hydro has also developed a partnership with SD72 to pay for the bus costs so teachers and students can visit the John Hart site and within the public use areas.

The Banner Project is truly a community based initiative for Campbell River to be proud of! Thanks to Public Works for hanging the banners. The Arts Council would also like to extend its appreciation to all of the volunteers that assisted with the project, and a special thank you to all the artists.
Thanks go to all of our participating schools: Carihi, Cedar Elementary, CR Christian School, Ecole Willow Point Elementary, Georgia Park Elementary, Oyster River Elementary, Penfield Elementary, Quadra Elementary, Ripple Rock Elementary, Sandowne Elementary, and Southgate Middle School.

Individual Artists and Groups include: Gillian Wall, Huber Hoff Academy, Sarah, Brad/Jamie, Annika/Michelle/Nathaniel, Natasha/Marci May, Mary Teer, Susie Hansen and John Argast.

Our suppliers: Hitec Screen Printing for providing the banners and for screen printing the ‘flags’; B&K Upholstery for sewing ‘flags’ on the bottom of banners.; Cloverdale for supplying the paint for the banners and Save-On-Foods for supplying all the containers to portion the paint.

Our facilitators: Larry Stefanyk, Banner Coordinator, for going to all the schools delivering paint and supplies; Barry Kegler, School District 72, who picked up banner stretchers and delivered them to the schools; Trina Soltys, of Campbell River Public Works, for arranging the hanging of the banners along with the hanging crew.

Very importantly, “Thank You” to our Sponsors – without them there would be no Project.

Thank you so much! The Banners look amazing this year.
We should all be proud of a true community initiative!
